Proposed CDR agenda (Heitzenroeder/Reiersen)

First draft of CDR work plans for WBS 1 (Nelson)

PF interferences with VV ports (Williamson)

Minutes

Our weekly telecon was held on December 12.  Nelson reported that Goranson did a cross-check on the LN2 calculations reported by Dahlgren.  LN2 cooling does indeed appear feasible.  However, there was still a factor of 20 difference in the heat transfer coefficients used.  Goranson will contact Dahlgren and resolve the differences.  Nelson indicated a lingering concern about the LN2 flashing in the coolant channels.  Nelson indicated that additional work was needed figure out how to fabricate the copper shims.

Dave Williamson reported on interferences with the vacuum vessel ports and a new PF set proposed for the evolving modular coil set.  Of particular concern was the blockage of the large port above and below the machine at the v=0 plane.  The outer PF coil, PF5, was noted to have a larger radius than the TF outer leg.  This would push the cryostat further outboard if the present configuration was maintained.  Subsequent to the meeting, Reiersen modified the PF set.  PF5 was constrained to be inside the radius of the TF outer leg.  In the process of re-optimizing the PF design, PF4 move further outboard, relieving at least some of the blockage previously noted.  Williamson will review interferences with the new PF set.  If there are still access issues, it was noted that it might be possible to just "bend" PF4 around that particular port and live with it.

Work plans are needed for WBS 1.  Nelson provided a first cut.  These plans will be reviewed at next week's meeting.

Most of the meeting was spent discussing the CDR agenda.  Heitzenroeder and Reiersen structured a draft agenda prior to the meeting.  Helpful input on re-structuring the agenda was received from Greg Pitonak (DOE-PAO) and Charles Neumeyer (NSTX) as well as NCSX project members in attendance.  The re-structured agenda is provided via the hyperlink above.  NCSX Project Management review is requested.

The next meting is scheduled for December 12.
