Summary of NCSX SIT Meeting of Monday, Feb. 3, 2003

1. Announcements (Hutch)

* QPS MCWF Manufacturing Studies.

QPS study tasks will be added to NCSX contracts as amendments after contracts are placed. Deliverables are needed around April 1 to support QPS CDR. An updated budget profile is needed by mid-February, however. A review of the estimates by P. Heitzenroeder is requested. ACTION: Hutch follow up with Phil.

* NCSX Project Control Systems Review.

Review is scheduled for Feb. 27-28.  Key people are: Ron Strykowsky at PPPL, Brad Nelson at ORNL. A web site for review materials has been opened at http://www.pppl.gov/ncsx/Meetings/PCS2003/PCS2003_index.HTML.

* CDR and PAC-6 recommendation logs.

Tracking logs have been updated and posted. Any further updates should be sent to Hutch. In general the project is about where it needs to be to resolve the issues in a timely fashion.

2. Critical Issues (Brad et al.)

* VV Geometry / Field Period Assembly (Brad)

Still a critical issue.  Art Brooks will give a status report at Wednesday's WBS-1 meeting. Brad will discuss the plans for coming to resolution. ACTION: Brad.

* Modular coil cooling configuration. (Brad)

Mechanically applied copper strips with cooled clamps is proposed as the baseline. Manufacturing R&D is needed to establish a plan and estimates. A decision is needed on how much more effort to devote to exploring alternative concepts. This is a topic for this week's WBS-1 meeting. ACTION: Brad.

* Eddy current analysis plan (Mike)

A plan to analyze eddy current effects with and without a poloidal break has been developed with Art Brooks. The 1.7 T high beta scenario will be used. First results are expected later this week. ACTION: Mike continue to follow-up.
