PowerINSPECT crashes on opening

Context

this document applies to :

  1. PowerINSPECT 1355 and later

Gripe no 000

Summary

Some combinations of Graphics Cards and settings may fail to work with Open GL.   This may result in PowerINSPECT crashing as soon as the CAD view appears.  A workaround or test for this is to disable the shaded view by setting the Shading View key to 0 in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Delcam\PowerINSPECT\XXXX\General\

Description

PowerINSPECT fails to start:  It crashes when the session opens.  This occurs whether or not a CAD file is being used.

Problem cause

This may be due to a graphic card compliance problem with OpenGL. If any other 3rd party software using OPENGL is also crashing then it is undoubtedly a graphics card problem

Solution/Workaround

In NT4 , there is no Hardware acceleration slider like in Win98 , but this slider can be found under Win2000. Have you tried with Win2000?  Depending which graphic card you are using, there may be a panel to help you tune the graphic card setting. Have you found any interesting setting in this section related to OpenGL ? Have you tried with a different resolution and/or colour depth ?
