NCSX Man-Port AccessFrom: Jerry D. Levine Sent: Monday, November 28, 2005 2:26 PM To: Wayne T. Reiersen; Geoffrey J. Gettelfinger Cc: John T. Bavlish; Thomas G. Brown; James P. McGuire; William V. Slavin Subject: NCSX Man-Port Access Wayne and Geoff, I have discussed with IH (Slavin) and Site Protection (Bavlish and McGuire) the proposed access to the interior of the NCSX vacuum vessel via a 21” diameter port at the end of a duct. As discussed during the recent FDR on this subject, there will be 3 such ports on the vessel with one used for pumping (therefore not available for access or egress). Based on these discussions, I have the following responses to questions that were raised: 1.. Is the 21” port and duct arrangement adequate for access to and normal/emergency egress from the NCSX vacuum vessel? YES. 2.. How many ports need to be open when a person or persons are working inside the NCSX vacuum vessel? TWO PORTS NEED TO BE OPEN AT THESE TIMES TO PERMIT ACCESS FOR ESU FOR POSSIBLE EMERGENCY RESPONSE. Please let me know if you have any questions on this material. Jerry Jerry D. Levine Head, Environment, Safety & Health (ES&H) DOE Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory P.O.
