Re: Minutes of 12/06 Engineering telecon
An engineering telecon was held on 12/6. Reiersen discussed the new PF coil set for the reference (1017) design. The new PF set features 5 PF coils that have been resized and relocated to provide an excellent fit to the fields provided by the old PF set in Zarnstorff’s optimized equilibria for S1, S2, and S3. Following the meeting, Reiersen published an update in which the OH distribution and number of turns in the two OH coils were modified.
Brad Nelson provided an update on the activities at ORNL. He reviewed the plans for generating cost and schedule information for the PVR. He also covered progress in the modular coil design, machine structure and facility interfaces, cryostat design, PF/TF coils, and design integration.
Dave Williamson provided further information on the modular coil design. He indicated that FEA model preparation was underway and presented a schedule for the analysis. It was determined that we should focus on the reference scenario states (S1, S2, and S3) and ignore fault conditions for the PVR. Williamson reported on fixing modest problems with the existing coil geometry and on developing the coil as a ‘merged solid’ to facilitate rapid prototyping.
The next engineering telecon will be held on 12/13. Please be prepared to report on the following topics:
Nelson
Strategy for industrial involvement
Cost and schedule development plan
Williamson
Update on modular coils
Brown
Progress in DesignView implementation at PPPL and ORNL
Cole
Progress in diagnostics integration
