Summary of NCSX System Integration Team (SIT) Meeting of Monday,
November 24, 2003
1. FY-04 Schedule Risks
We
continued the discussion of schedule risks affecting FY-04 goals.
- Modeling the MCWF: We have made progress but haven’t
demonstrated a model that works for all 3 types and fits together without
interferences. Until then we are pursuing three parallel approaches: Dave
Williamson’s, Tom Hargrove’s, and Tom Brown’s. When one of these
approaches works, that will be the appropriate time for a modelers’ workshop
to settle on the path forward for the project. The timescale is forecast to be
~first week of December.
- Constructing analytical models from the CAD model:
John followed up with H.M.Fan and learned that this is still a problem
area, even with the progress made in modeling. Needs continued attention.
- Manufacturer feedback on potential machining issues:
this needs to be an agenda item for the December tour of the MCWF suppliers.
We should ask for presentations of their machining simulations. ACTION: Hutch
follow up with Phil H. Phil plans to hold a meeting before the trip to
set the specifics of the agenda. Provide input to Phil.
- Vacuum vessel design and interface issues. Discussions
at this meeting and thereafter turned up several vacuum vessel design issues
which require prompt resolution:
- Accommodating the ICRF antenna feeds.
- Accommodating the internal trim coil leads.
- Accommodating inboard supersonic gas injectors.
- Increasing minimum plasma-wall distance (reportedly
shrunk to 1.4 cm).
- Re-segmenting the vacuum vessel (what problem does
this solve?)
- Baking to 350 C.
Meetings are planned for Dec. 2 (edge physics)
and Dec. 3 (engineering) to address some of these issues.
ACTION: Mike
follow up with R. Majeski to ascertain latest ICRF feed requirements and
solution options.
2. Plan
for following up on PBR and EIR recommendations
- A draft PBR issues disposition plan with preliminary
assessments was distributed. The issues are more straightforward than the PDR
issues, requiring relatively little analysis or design to support decisions.
ACTION: Hutch/Wayne develop disposition recommendations.
- John has taken an initial cut at responding to the EIR
recommendations. ACTION: John/Hutch/Ron resolve.
- Proposed schedule:
- Finalize disposition plans by Dec. 12.
- Finalize changes to the cost & schedule baseline
(including contingencies) by Dec. 19.
- Updated resource-loaded schedule and ECP by Jan. 9.
- CD-2 ESAAB, week of Jan.
