Summary of NCSX System Integration Team (SIT) Meeting
of Monday, August 9, 2004
1. Twisted Racetrack
Coil and Modular Coil Windings (Wayne)
- Feedback from the MCWF
suppliers indicates first production MCWF will likely not arrive before March
2005. If the twisted racetrack winding is finished in October, 2004, as
currently planned, it leaves too long of a discontinuity in the effort of the
winding crew.
- Engineering recommends
proceeding more slowly with the twisted racetrack using a smaller crew.
The Modular Coil FDR, which is dependent on input from the twisted
racetrack activity, would then be postponed from November to January, 2005.
This should be folded into FY-2005 planning.
- Detailed design of MC
winding parts is being paced so as not to get ahead of the twisted racetrack
activity, which is needed to finalize the design.
- Twisted racetrack
planning
- Design data for
fabricating parts has been issued for the parts needed immediately, e.g. the
cladding.
- The twisted racetrack
winding form and the repaired Romer arm are both due this week.
- Modifications to the
winding form will proceed immediately thereafter.
- A magnetic measurement
technique for locating the coil current center is being developed by ORNL.
The analysis software is nearly complete. The procurement of the second
Romer arm is being accelerated to support the hardware development for this
technique. After some initial design and supporting development, a peer
review of the method will be held. This will occur in late August or early
September. Action: Brad to schedule.
2. Cost and schedule
control
- The project will be
re-baselined over the next few weeks in preparation for CD-3. A schedule
for re-baselining is being developed.
- Ron will proceed with
re-scheduling the work using the available input and known constraints.
Jobs will not be re-estimated as a rule, but certain jobs may need to
be. Critical re-planning input should be submitted to Ron in a
timely manner. The new baseline will be reviewed by the WBS managers for
fine-tuning adjustments before being finalized.
- Significant disconnects
between the baseline and actual plans were found at the July status meeting
held on Aug. 2, indicating a need for improved tracking. In an effort to
improve performance, Wayne has initiated a weekly meeting every Monday at 10
with key job managers focused on weekly job tracking and
issues.
3. Critical
Issues
- The critical issues list
needs to be updated. Action: Wayne.
4. Next SIT Meeting:
Monday, August 16 at 11:00 a.m. EDT.
