Summary

1.   Producing the FDR Deliverables
Several meetings were held in the past two weeks aimed at identifying key reviews and deliverables. Status was reported by Reiersen and Nelson.

  • Reviews for modular coil development and production articles. See WBS 142 meeting notes of 2/20 on Engineering Meeting Records page. Highlights:

April 2,  FDR of twisted racetrack coil (TRC)
April 15, Fabrication Readiness Review of TRC
May 19-20, FDR of the Production Modular Coil Winding Forms (All 3 types)
July 7, Fabrication Readiness Review of the Modular Coil Prototype
Dec. 15, Fabrication Readiness Review of the Type C Production Modular Coil

  • Reviews for Vacuum Vessel development and production articles.

May 19-20, FDR of the Vacuum Vessel Subassembly
by March 31, 2005,  FDR of VV hardware (heating/cooling distribution, insulation, supports)

  • Peer reviews between now and the FDR. A comprehensive list of about 30 was issued. Next few are as follows (dates approximate):

t.b.d.,  Weld joint R&D Plan, Goranson
Feb.  27,  VV port configuration, Part II, Cole
Feb. 27,  Racetrack coil test plans,  Nelson, Gettelfinger.
Mar. 3,  Type A & B Modular coil casting models for solidification analysis., Williamson
Mar. 10, Structural Design Criteria and Material Allowables, Zatz
Mar. 10, EM loads and fault conditions,  Strickler, Fan
Mar. 10, Eddy Currents and disruption loads, Brooks
Action:  Identify peer review chairs for as many of the reviews as possible. (Reiersen, Nelson)

  • Analysis tasks.

    • Vacuum vessel analyses: See WBS 12 meeting notes of 2/12 on Engineering Meeting Records page. Tasks are in the process of being estimated, assigned, and scheduled.

    • Modular coil analyses:  draft plan has been issued. Tasks are in the process of being estimated, assigned, and scheduled.

  • FDR Deliverables.  VVSA and MCWF deliverables lists for the May FDR were issued by Nelson, addressing analyses, manufacturing development, requirements, configuration models, product specifications, drawings, ICDs, and other documents. Drawing lists are still coming together.

  • Strykowsky reported that the revised plans are being incorporated into the ECP-5 baseline. So far, the impact on resource needs is beneficial, due to the spreading of tasks over a longer time.  The ECP-5 baseline will be issued these week.

Action: further changes to be incorporated into the ECP-5 baseline should be submitted to Ron by 2/27.

2.  Project Control (Ron)

  • CCB to approve ECP-5 will be held on or before March 5.  ACTION: Simmons to coordinate.

  • February status meeting will be March 5.  Ron will arrange.  Status will be reported against the ECP-5 baseline.  Data will be submitted to Federal Project Director for input to PARS system.

3.  Final Design Review plan

  • The VVSA/MCWF Final Design Review will be May 19-20 (Weds.-Thurs.)

  • A draft plan addressing charge, input deliverables, output deliverables, review panel members, and review agenda was discussed.  Action:  Neilson update the plan based on discussion.

  • A FDR web page will be set up similar to the PDR and other web pages.  Action:  Pamela.

4.  Critical Technical Issues  (Wayne)

  • The critical technical issues list has been updated and posted on the Engineering web page.  Good progress is being made in resolving critical issues.  Several have been resolved recently.

  • Two new issues were added:

    • Electropolish the vacuum vessel?  Decision needed based on cost vs benefit, by Feb. 27. Responsibility: Neilson

    • Who owns the port adapters beyond the first flange, VV or Diagnostics?  It was decided that the answer is probably Diagnostics for those ports whose first flange is inside the cryostat.  The topic may be discussed as an add-on to the VV port configuration, Part II peer review, but some advanced preparation by the affected parties is.  Action: Mike and Brad coordinate the necessary discussions and preparations.

The resolution will be documented via an ICD between WBS 12 and 3. Action: Simmons.

5.  Next SIT Meeting: Monday, March 1, 2004 at 11:00 a.m.
