Summary of NCSX
System Integration Team (SIT) Meeting of Monday, November 29,
2004
1. Contract management issues
(Mike V., Phil)
- A meeting held Nov. 22
resulted in an action plan to improve the handling of specification changes
that arise during the performance of the contract. These have occurred
with high frequency in the initial phases of the VVSA contract. Several
of the actions assigned at the meeting have already been completed.
- It was noted that there has
not been the same high level of interaction on MCWF spec details that has
occurred on the VVSA, Action: Phil ensure that the EIO team is
reviewing the technical data in sufficient detail.
- The tech. rep., as
technical point of contact for the contract, fields all requests from the
vendor and works it with the appropriate project people (e.g., design, QA,
process experts, management) to get prompt resolution. Resolution, typically a
spec or drawing modification, is formally documented in letter from the
contract administrator to the vendor, with accompanying documents, without
waiting for all the documents to get revised and signed off. he documents are
revised and signed off within 90 days.
- When accompanying documents
are combined in a Zip file, the Zip file contains a list of the affected
drawings, revision numbers and revision dates. The SIT was satisfied
with this procedure. Action: Mike V. close loop Larry Sutton to make sure
he is OK with this approach.
- Arrangements are being made
for Brad Nelson to be the PPPL Responsible Line Manager (RLM) for off-site
fabrication jobs (such as the VVSA and MCWF) and design jobs. Required
training will be completed next week when Brad visits
PPPL.
2. Twisted Racetrack schedule
risks (Wayne)
- The schedule for
accomplishing the 2Q Joule milestone to complete the twisted racetrack
assembly, ready to bag, by March 31, 2005, is at risk. Use of overtime
& extended hours to stay on schedule can be considered. Winding
operations can make good use of this.
- Action: Wayne follow up
with Jim C. to develop a plan to stay on schedule. Make arrangements with HP
to extend hours of operation in the TFTR test cell. Requires responsible
individuals identified to close the test cell at the end of operations.
- The trial winding of the
TRC is going well. Although measurement data have not been analyzed, there
appears to be not much growth in the winding pack. It may be possible to
increase insulation.
- The plan is to complete the
9th and final layer of the first side today, wind as much of the second side
as possible the rest of the week, measure and disassemble the winding next
Monday 12/6, and start applying cladding for the full winding test next
Tuesday 12/7.
3. November Job Status plans
(Ron)
- The November job status
meeting is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 3, at 8:00-12:00 a.m. Action:
Ron announce and distribute material.
4. Next SIT
Meeting: Monday, Dec. 6, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. EST.
