NCSX Procurement Update of 4/07/05

1. MCWF procurement

• The C-1 casting was shipped to Major Tool after completion of upgrades by MetalTek. Upon arrival at Major Tool, the part was installed in the machining fixture. Positioning of the part is being optimized for best fit of the finished part within the machining stock.
  

• Fabrication and dimensional scanning of the Type A pattern was completed by Lawton.
  

• Fabrication of local “chills” (heat sinks) for the Type C pattern is in progress, in preparation for pouring the C-2 casting.
  

2. VVSA procurement

• Major Tool has begun the panel forming process with the “first strike” on Panel #1, followed by annealing and further pressing.  Reportedly the panel formed more easily and more closely to the desired shape than expected.
  

• Die fabrication continues, with 17 of 20 now complete.
  

• Fabrication of the inspection gages and the 60-degree weld fixture continues.
