NCSX Procurement Update of 2/2/05 1. MCWF procurement * Processing of the C-1 casting continues. So-called ³upgrading², the normal process of repairing casting defects, is in progress. * Both the radiographic and the dimensional inspection results on the C-1 highlighted the need for Type C pattern modifications, including the requirements for further flow solidification analysis to re-optimize the gating system. The lessons learned are also being incorporated into the Types A and B patterns. * Major Tool is progressing well on both the machining fixture fabrication and the machine programming in preparation for starting to machine the C-1 casting this month. * The project has specified its requirements for fracture test samples to be cut from the prototype winding form. 2. VVSA procurement * The material (kirksite) for the ten die sets has been ordered. * Major Tool has submitted 7 (of 14) process outline sections for approval. The process outline defines in-process inspections, documentation, qualifications, etc. to be used for QA verification. * Major Tool is forecasting a 3-4 week delay in delivery of the second and third segments, which they attribute to changes in the shell geometry relative to the prototype being greater than expected. They project that the first segment will be delivered on schedule. Hutch Neilson
