NCSX Procurement Update of 2/9/05
1. MCWF
procurement
- Processing of the C-1
casting continues. So-called “upgrading”, the normal process of repairing
casting defects, is in progress. The excavations are nearly complete and ready
for welding upgrade. Forecast completion date for this step is Feb. 21.
The C-1 casting is still on schedule for delivery to PPPL in
May.
- The EIO team has focused on
integrating the lessons learned from the C-1 Casting into the remaining C
castings as well as the A & B castings. While this process adds time
upfront to the scheduled delivery dates, they believe it will ultimately
result in better castings in shorter turn-around times. The new solidification
modeling for the Type A coil is complete.
2. VVSA
procurement
- Major Tool has begun
machining the dies.
- Major Tool is addressing
cost and schedule issues associated with the changes in the shell geometry
relative to the prototype being greater than expected. We are in close
communication with them on this matter. Work progress is not
impacted.
