NCSX Procurement Update of 2/23/05
1. MCWF
procurement
- Upgrading of the C-1
casting continues, with welding operations in progress. Overall, welding on
Coil C1 appears to be more extensive than originally anticipated and planned
based on upgrades required on the prototype. As a result, Metal Tek now
estimates that they will ship C-1 the week of
3/6/2005.
- A revalidation of the flow
solidification analysis for the Type C pattern was performed, applying
different assumptions about about the alloy than the original analysis.
The results more closely paralleled the actual C1 casting problems
encountered. After further iteration, the pattern will be
modified.
- Lawton has recommenced work
on the A pattern. The A coil was remodeled after a calibration was performed
with alloy parameters adjusted to approximate the actual performance on the C1
casting. Lawton is working on the modeling of 2 of the core boxes
that need to be modified due to the changes in solidification modeling.
2. VVSA procurement
- Major Tool continues to
machine the dies. Two more sets of dies came in last
week.
- The weld fixture for the
60-degree half-period weldments is in final design. Design improvements have
been made to facilitate access during welding and removal
afterward.
