Summary of NCSX
System Integration Team (SIT) Meeting of Monday, January 3,
2005
1. NCSX Follow-up on SLAC
Accident
- A meeting of all NCSX
managers (project manager through job managers) will be held Jan. 20 at 1:30
to discuss SLAC accident implications for NCSX.
- Meeting will focus on SLAC
management failures: failure to provide safe workplace and failure of ISM.
Neilson and Reiersen will talk briefly to initiate discussion and feedback.
Responsibility: Hutch to organize meeting and coordinate with Lab
management.
2. Visitor
Procedures
- PPPL hosts are responsible
for ensuring that visitors abide by Lab safety and security requirements.
- For DOE-badged visitors
(e.g., from ORNL or DOE) on NCSX business, Reiersen, Zarnstorff, or Neilson
will ensure that a host is identified. An e-mail to Project Office, with
appropriate cc’s will document visitors’ names, dates of visit, activities
while on site, and host name. Other visitor categories are covered by
PPPL procedures. Action: Hutch seek further clarification from
Lab.
3. Next Lehman
Review
- We proposed week of June 20
for the next Lehman review, but were asked to propose alternatives due to a
conflict for reviewer Jeff Hoy.
- We will propose:
1)week of June 27, or 2)June 16-17. We still prefer week of June
20. Action: Hutch coordinate with DOE and PPPL Director’s
Office.
4. Project Control
(Ron)
- Expectations for December
job status meeting of Friday, Jan. 7 were discussed. Ron has issued
guidance and preparation materials to job managers.
- We should be ramping up
spending on designers and technicians. This is an issue to be worked at Jan. 7
status meeting.
- An ECP is being planned
which will draw contingency to address variances associated with retired risks
(jobs closed or nearly closed). A CCB will be scheduled the week of Jan. 17.
Action: Ron coordinate with Bob.
- Field Period Assembly
design review schedule has evolved and needs to be updated. Action: Ron
work with Tom Brown
5. Critical Issues (Wayne)
- Twisted racetrack schedule
needs more detail. Action: Ron work with Jim C.
- The logic relating the MC
FDRs, twisted racetrack, and procurement of MC production parts (cladding,
tubing, chill plates, lead blocks, clamps, etc.) needs to be updated.
Goal is to be sure production parts are available when needed to support MC
production schedule. Want to fold twisted racetrack results into the
design as much as possible. Action: Wayne lead in updating the logic
and schedule.
- Cryostat & Base Support
PDR is scheduled for Jan. 17. Status of deliverables is unknown. A
presentation by WBS manager Gettelfinger is being planned for the WBS 1
Engineering Meeting of Jan. 5. Action: Brad.
- TF Coil PDR (Jan.) is on
track, but a beam test is needed to support FDR. Steps are being taken to
expedite beam fabrication and testing.
