NCSX Procurement Update of 6/01/05
1. MCWF
procurement
- Machining of the C-1
casting (MCWF#1) continues following successful weld repairs of a machining
error. The poloidal break has been cut and semi-finish machining down to the
0.030-in. envelope has begun.
- X-ray inspection of the C-2
casting (MCWF#2) was completed. The results are a substantial improvement over
the C-1, confirming the success of the pattern modifications that were made
following the C-1 pour. The amount of weld upgrade required is about a
factor of four (rough estimate) less than that required for the C-1.
- The A-1 (MCWF#3) casting
was poured on May 24 and was in the process of being removed from its mold
late last week.
- The C pattern is being set
up in preparation for pouring the C-3 (MCWF#4)
casting.
- Project delegations visited
MetalTek and Major Tool last week. The team witnessed progress on the
in-process parts and made progress toward resolution of various QA
documentation issues.
2. VVSA procurement
- Fabrication of the panels
continues. Five have been completed, and #6 and #7 are nearly
completed.
- Fabrication of the
60-degree weld fixture continues. Machining of the precision contours is in
progress.
- Design of the 120-degree
weld fixture and the vertical port weld fixture is
proceeding.
- The technical
representative, Mike Viola, visited Major Tool last week and witnessed
progress on the in-process parts and fixtures.
