NCSX Procurement Update of 6/08/05
1. MCWF
procurement
- Machining of the C-1
casting (MCWF#1) continues. They are in “semi-final” machining down to the
0.030-in. envelope. They currently forecast a July 7
delivery.
- Weld upgrades of the C-2
casting (MCWF#2) have started and are progressing very well.
- The A-1 (MCWF#3) casting
has undergone heat treatment and removal of the risers is in progress. Based
on visual examination, the quality of the casting appears to be very
good.
- The C pattern has been
removed from its mold in preparation for pouring the C-3 (MCWF#4)
casting.
- Solidification modeling of
the B casting has been completed and Lawton has begun modeling the B
pattern.
2. VVSA procurement
- Fabrication of the
60-degree fixtures (2) continues: One fixture is finished with machining and
in final inspection. The second fixture is being inspected prior to
final machine.
- Panel fabrication
continues: panel 8 was pressed, panel 10 is nearly finished, panel 9 is to be
pressed this week.
- Production Panels are in
the process of having the mill finish, or “skin” removed from the ID
side.
