Procurement Update of 11/09/05
1. MCWF procurement
The C-2 casting is
progressing through 5-axis machining and has completed 3 of 5 setups. Phil
Heitzenroeder and Jim Chrzanowski will visit Major Tool this Friday (11/11) to
review progress and follow up on changes resulting from C-1 inspections. We
expect the C-2 to be delivered around the end of this
month.
The C-3 casting continues
making good progress through 3-axis machining
operations.
The C-4 completed foundry
operations and was shipped to Major Tool. Radiographic inspection of the tee
at Major Tool indicated no flaws exceeding the allowable 0.080 in. The C-4 was
moved to the machining center and is expected to be in 3-axis machining
operations this week.
The C-5 returned from
radiographic testing with only 3 rejections. Final upgrades are in
progress.
The C-6 was scrapped. A new
pour date is to be determined. Metaltek is preparing a briefing on the
possible causes of the gas inclusions which were responsible for the C-6
rejection.
The A-1 casting is at Major
Tool.
The A-2 is in initial
radiographic testing.
The A-3 is undergoing
removal of gates and risers.
Mold setup for the B-1
casting is complete. It is expected to pour this
week.
2. VVSA procurement
Ports continue to be welded
onto the first 120-degree segment. This operation has presented more issues
with metrology then anticipated. Major Tool has worked through these issues
and believe the pace of welding the ports will dramatically increase over the
next few weeks.
The second 120-degree
segment is being welded.
Fabrication of all
remaining large ports is in progress.
The 5th 60-degree segment
is being welded.
