NCSX Procurement Update of 10/05/05
1. MCWF procurement
- The C-1 winding form
(MCWF#1) was shipped to PPPL after intensive review of the inspection data by
PPPL & ORNL engineers, teleconference meetings with EIO & Major Tool,
and finally release for shipment. The part arrived on Monday, Oct. 3.
Documentation review and disposition of NCR’s is still in progress.
Formal acceptance will follow once these are
complete.
- The C-2 casting (MCWF#2) is
in 5-axis machining operations. An updated delivery forecast for the C-2 and
subsequent winding forms will be available next
week.
- The C-3 casting (MCWF#4)
has begun rough machining operations on one of MTM’s 3-axis
machines.
- The C-4 (MCWF#5) is still
undergoing weld upgrades at MetalTek.
- The C-5 (MCWF#6) is ready
to start weld upgrades as soon as the C-4 is
complete.
- The C-6 (MCWF#7) should now
be out for its first radiographic testing this week (not last week, as
previously reported.)
- The A-2 (MCWF#8) casting
was broken out of the mold over the weekend. Lawton personnel participated in
the molding operations as part of the investigation of the thin-wall issue.
Preliminary caliper measurements indicate adequate wall thickness on the A-2.
Detailed measurements will follow.
- The Type B pattern is at
MetalTek.
