NCSX Procurement Update of 10/12/05
1. MCWF procurement
- The C-1 winding form
(MCWF#1) is at PPPL. We are documenting non-conformances and changes we
want to see in future units. EIO and MTM representatives will visit PPPL
on Thursday 10/13 to see the part and hold discussions on these
issues.
- The C-2 casting (MCWF#2) is
in 5-axis machining operations at Major Tool. The schedule was impacted by the
delays on C-1 and machine maintenance. EIO now forecasts delivery in
mid-November.
- The C-3 casting (MCWF#3) is
in 3-axis machining operations. EIO now forecasts delivery in late
December.
- The A-1 casting (MCWF#7) is
at Major Tool. It is not being machined at this time, in order to focus
machining efforts on Type C castings. This is expected to result in the best
delivery schedule.
- The C-4 (MCWF#4) is passed
liquid penetrant inspection after weld repairs and was shipped out for
radiographic testing.
- Protracted weld repair
cycles have slowed the processing of recent castings at MetalTek. The cause
was finally discovered to be a minor equipment problem (a leaky gas line)
which was readily corrected. It is expected that welding operations will
progress more smoothly now. While the problem has impacted the schedule, it
has not impacted the quality of the welds, which is verified by radiographic
testing after repairs.
- The C-5 (MCWF#5) is
undergoing weld upgrades.
- The C-6 (MCWF#6) is in
radiographic testing.
- The A-2 (MCWF#8) casting
has had its gates and risers removed, and has been heat
treated.
- Molding operations for the
A-3 casting (MCWF#9) have started. It may pour as early as this
weekend.
- The Type B pattern is at
MetalTek. The plan is to pour B-1 (MCWF#10) after
A-3.
2. VVSA procurement
- The neutral beam port is
being welded onto the first 120-degree segment.
- The second neutral beam
port and other large ports are being welded.
- The second 120-degree
segment is still in preparation for joining of the two 60-degree segments (#3
and #4)
- Assembly and welding for
the 5th 60 degree segment is in progress.
