NCSX Procurement Update of 10/19/05
1. MCWF procurement
- The C-1 winding form
(MCWF#1) is at PPPL. EIO and MTM representatives visited PPPL on
10/13-14 to discuss non-conformances in the C1 winding form and changes
desired in future units. Proposed changes and specification revisions were
documented and sent to EIO for cost & schedule impact assessment.
No-impact changes are being incorporated immediately in the machining of the
Type C winding forms.
- The C-2 casting (MCWF#2) is
about halfway through the 5-axis machining operations at Major Tool. It has
been flipped to the second side. The 5-axis programs developed on C-1 have
been running very well on the C-2.
- The C-3 casting (MCWF#3) is
about 25% complete with 3-axis machining
operations.
- The A-1 casting (MCWF#7) is
at Major Tool. It is not being machined at this time, in order to focus
machining efforts on Type C castings. This is expected to result in the best
delivery schedule. During their visit, MTM officials said they were preparing
machine programs for the Type A and would endeavor to begin rough machining
provided it did not slow down the Type C’s. Overall shop scheduling is also a
consideration.
- The C-4 (MCWF#4) went
through radiographic testing and will require additional weld upgrades.
Radiographic inspection after these repairs can be done on site at MetalTek,
which will save time.
- The C-5 (MCWF#5) is
undergoing weld upgrades. Changes to the welding facilities discussed last
week appear to have been effective.
- The C-6 (MCWF#6) is in
radiographic testing.
- The A-2 (MCWF#8) casting
was in grinding in preparation for initial radiographic
testing.
- The A-3 casting (MCWF#9)
was poured on Oct. 14.
- The Type B pattern is at
MetalTek. The plan is to pour B-1 (MCWF#10)
next.
2. VVSA procurement
- Ports are being welded onto
the first 120-degree segment.
- The second 120-degree
segment is being welded.
- All 60 panels have been
formed.
