NCSX Procurement Update of
10/26/05
1. MCWF procurement
- The C-1 winding form is at
PPPL. Proposed changes and specification revisions resulting from inspection
of C1 are being evaluated to EIO for cost & schedule impact assessment.
No-impact changes are being incorporated immediately in the machining of the
Type C winding forms. QA documentation for the C1 is in the process of being
reviewed and dispositioned by PPPL and EIO team
personnel.
- The C-2 casting is
progressing through 5-axis machining. A delay of several days occurred last
week due to an unscheduled outage of the 5-axis machine. Major Tool has
used weekend shifts to try to hold to their November 14 forecast date, but the
down time together with machining changes resulting from the C1 may further
delay delivery of the C2.
- The C-3 casting continues
making excellent progress through 3-axis machining operations, and was
recently flipped to the second side.
- The A-1 casting is at Major
Tool.
- The C-4 went through
radiographic testing and is undergoing additional weld upgrades. Radiographic
inspection after these repairs can be done on site at MetalTek, which will
save time.
- The C-5 is in radiographic
testing after weld repairs
- The C-6 went through its
first radiographic testing last week. On 10/26, MetalTek informed PPPL of
their decision to scrap the C-6 casting due to poor quality, which they
determined to be beyond repair. They have begun an investigation into the
cause. Subsequent castings (A-2 and A-3) appear to be
satisfactory.
- The A-2 casting was still
in grinding in preparation for initial radiographic
testing.
- The A-3 casting was broken
out of the mold and appears to be of good
quality.
- Mold setup for the B-1
casting is in progress and is planned to be poured next
week.
2. VVSA procurement
