Summary of NCSX System Integration
Team (SIT) Meeting of Monday, October 31, 2005
1.
Safety Awareness
- Higher traffic and activity
levels in the NCSX manufacturing facility increase the risk of safety
violations or accidents. Larry listed some measures being taken to reinforce
awareness of hazards and rules.
- Radiation Work Permit
procedures will be reviewed at meetings.
- Current practice is that
materials brought into the test cell can be removed within 24 hours without
being surveyed. Action: Larry confirm with Health Physics.
- Toolbox safety meetings
on pertinent topics. Ladder safety was a recent topic.
- E-mail reminders will be
sent to project staff, including ORNL participants and all PPPL supervisors.
- Improved
signage.
- All SIT members have a
responsibility for safety leadership on NCSX.
2.
Risks
- Preliminary coil
manufacturing issues identified through TRC dissection.
(Wayne)
- Main concern is apparent
shift of the top two layers of turns away from the tee, possibly due to low
clamping pressure being applied through the cooling tubes.
- Epoxy impregnation
appears to be very complete. There are some localized issues where the bag
mold may have interfered.
- A project response plan
and assessment for the Lehman review will be developed. A meeting is
scheduled for this purpose on Nov. 1 at 11:00 a.m. Responsible:
Wayne.
- MC parts availability
beyond C1. (Larry)
- C2 cladding will be
manufactured in-house. There are no other parts issues at this
time.
- Parts management for MC,
TF, and FPA. (Wayne, Larry)
- The intent is to produce
Bills of Materials (BOM) for all jobs and use them to manage parts
deliveries. Wayne is considering the appointment of a parts coordinator to
be responsible for ensuring on-time availability of parts to support these
jobs. Action: Wayne propose a plan.
- Vacuum vessel parts design
and procurement. (Wayne)
- This was the subject of a
meeting on October 31, documented separately.
- Procurement of the SXR
modifications for the spoolpiece needs further
discussion.
- FY-06 work plans.
(Wayne)
- A baseline plan has been
developed and will be presented at the Lehman review. Some fine-tuning is
needed reduce risks. Detailed planning of vacuum vessel design and
procurement is a leading example.
3.

will be Tues., Nov. 8 in the morning. Job managers will be encouraged to
review job cost reports as part of their preparation.
