1. MCWF
procurement
- Machining of the C-1
casting (MCWF#1) continues at Major Tool. They completed the 5-axis machining
operations last week. All the machining that remains is to finish the
poloidal break (on a 3-axis machine) and some hand work. Final inspection and
testing is expected to begin later this week with magnetic permeability tests.
They are tracking a few days behind the schedule that was presented to
us at our August 9 visit. We expect it to be delivered this
month.
- The C-2 casting (MCWF#2)
continues making good progress progress in machining. They expect it to move
to the 5-axis machine late this week or early next.
- The A-1 casting (MCWF#3)
shipped to Major Tool for machining this week. One of MetalTek’s weld material
tests needs to be repeated due to a faulty specimen, but it was determined by
EIO, after consulting with PPPL, that processing could continue in parallel
with the re-testing.
- The C-3 (MCWF#4) casting
did not ship to Major Tool last week, due to a need for additional weld
upgrades. They expect to ship it this
week.
- The C-4 (MCWF#5) and C-5
(MCWF#6) castings are in-process.
- The C-6 (MCWF#7) casting
was poured last week, the last of the Type C’s, for a total of seven poured to
date.
- Fabrication the Type B
pattern pieces is complete. Assembly and dimensional inspection are in
process. Forecast delivery date is 9/15.
- Phil Heitzenroeder, MCWF
Procurement Technical Representative, visited both MetalTek and Major Tool
last week to observe progress and refine plans for supporting the C-1
inspection and test activities.
2. VVSA
procurement
- Major Tool succeeded in aligning the two half-period
VVSA sectors for joining into a full-period sector. The successful fixturing
approach, which was arrived at after some iteration, will be repeated on the
remaining two full-period sectors.
- Fabrication of the third
half-period sector (of six) is nearly complete. Fabrication of the
fourth half-period sector has started.
- Fabrication of ports and
panels continues.
