1. MCWF procurement
- Machining of the C-1
casting (MCWF#1) continues at Major Tool. Difficulties were encountered in
fixturing the part for the finish machining of the poloidal break, requiring
several iterations. An approach was finally developed that eliminates the
movement of the part, and the machining operation is now under way. Machining
and hand operations are expected to be completed this week, whereupon magnetic
permeability and liquid penetrant inspections will begin. We expect
delivery this month.
- The C-2 casting (MCWF#2)
continues making good progress progress in machining. They expect it to move
to the 5-axis machine this week.
- The A-1 casting (MCWF#3)
was shipped to Major Tool last week, and the C-3 (MCWF#4) is expected to ship
this week.
- The C-4 (MCWF#5) has begun
weld upgrades.
- The C-5 (MCWF#6) returned
from initial radiographic inspection and was reported to have a very low
number of radiographic defects.
- The C-6 (MCWF#7) was broken
out of the mold and heat treated. The gating system is being
removed.
- Molding operations for the
A-2 (MCWF#8) have begun in preparation for pouring later this
month.
- Fabrication the Type B
pattern and dimensional scanning by 3D ScanCo were completed. It is ready for
shipment to MetalTek pending review of the data and release by
EIO.
2. VVSA procurement
- The first full-period
(120-degree) sector was welded and radiographic inspection started. Machining
of the holes for the ports is scheduled for this
week.
- The 3rd 60 degree segment
is almost complete except for X-Ray and final inspection. The upper and lower
sections of the fourth 60 degree segment.
