NCSX Procurement Update of 9/28/05
1. MCWF procurement
- Dimensional inspection of
the C-1 winding form (MCWF#1) took longer than expected but is now complete.
Data analysis at Major Tool is in progress. The data will be transmitted to
Tom Brown of PPPL. Evaluation of the dimensional data and some hand finishing
operations still remain. Our DCMA representative has been on site for the
inspections.
- The C-2 casting (MCWF#2) is
ready for 5-axis machining, but operations are being delayed in order to
perform scheduled maintenance on the 5-axis machine, expected to take 2-3
days. Major Tool forecasts shipment in late October.
- The C-3 casting (MCWF#4) is
ready to begin rough machining, but operations are being delayed to perform
scheduled maintenance on the 3-axis, also expected to take 2-3
days.
- The C-4 (MCWF#5) is
undergoing weld upgrades.
- The C-5 (MCWF#6) is ready
to start weld upgrades as soon as the C-4 is
complete.
- The C-6 (MCWF#7) should be
out for its first radiographic testing this
week.
- The A-2 (MCWF#8) casting
was poured on Sept. 28.
- The Type B pattern is at
MetalTek.
2. VVSA procurement
- Machining of port holes for
the first full-period (120-degree) sector
continues.
- The neutral beam port is
complete.
- The 3rd 60 degree segment
is complete and mounted on the 120-degree fixture for joining with the 4th
segment, which is in final weld.
- The vertical ports are
being welded.
