Modular Coil fabrication (PPPL) MC Fabrication summary status: 3 in winding form prep and winding operations 3 coils potted to date C-1 Coil * Repair procedure approved. Repairs began on Wednesday to be completed by Friday (tomorrow). C-2 Coil * Post VPI work (cleanup and final clamp installation) planned for later this fiscal year. C-3 Coil * Coil potted and removed from autoclave. C-4 Coil * Completed the bagging and mold installation. * Planned to be moved to the autoclave by August 8th. C-5 Coil * Conductor winding completed. Final ground wrap installation to begin next week. * VPI prep completion forecast is September 5th, 13 working days behind schedule (6 months of overall float on critical remains). * Winding team increased to 18 people. Augments vacations plus allows for 2 shift operation on station 1. A-1 Coil * Cladding installation in progress. * VPI prep completion forecast is October 12, 8 working days behind schedule. A-2 Coil * Rework required (wings need to be ground to within tolerance). Planned for next week. A-3 Coil * A-3 delivered Monday 7/31, 12 days ahead of the project schedule. 2. MCWF procurement (Energy Industries of Ohio) MCWF summary status: All 18 castings have completed foundry operations 4 in active machining operations 6 in the machining queue 8 shipped to PPPL Machining operations (Major Tool and Machine): * B-1: 45% complete at MTM. B-1 is currently on the 40' Mitsu and will commence operation 2 of 2 first week of August. * Delivery is projected for mid September. * A-4: 40% complete at MTM. A-4 has completed the second of 2 planned resource leveling operations on the 30' Mitsu (to reduce the lead time on the 40' Mitsu). * Delivery is projected for mid October, after delivery of B-2, in order to meet the 1st Field Period. * B-2: 15% complete at MTM. For B-2, Poloidal Break operation has begun on the 30' Mitsu with expected completion first week of August. * Delivery of B-2 is currently projected for October 3rd. * B-3: 8% complete at MTM. B-3 is currently on operation 1 of 2 on the 40T Lucas. * B-4: 2% complete at MTM. B-4 is ready for the first operation on the 40T Lucas, which will be performed after 1st op of B-3 is completed. * B-5: 1% complete at MTM. B-5 was received at MTM on 7/5/06 and is currently in the queue for machining. Mag perm follow-up inspection was conducted by EIO on 7/26, confirming corrective actions at MTK were successful. * B-6: 1% complete at MTM. B-6 was received at MTM on 7/5/06 and is currently in the queue for machining. Mag perm follow-up inspection was conducted by EIO on 7/26, confirming corrective actions at MTK were successful. * A-5, A-6 and C-6 all remain in the queue for machining. 3. VVSA procurement (Major Tool and Machine) * VVSA #2: Delivered Wednesday August 2nd. * VVSA #3: Pumped down and no leaks found. Next step is to cut off the spacer and end covers and then begin trimming ports. Project delivery by mid September. 4. TF Assemblies procurement (Everson Tesla, Incorporated) * ETI continues to investigate sources for the wedge material and castings. Winding Fixture fab and machining is on schedule. Delivery of the first is forecast to be delayed by 9 weeks, but third coil only by 2 weeks. We will work with ETI to improve the schedule toward the contract delivery dates. * PPPL to ship first supply of lead spurs to ETI this week with the balance by the end of August. Ron Strykowsky
