Summary of NCSX
System Integration Team (SIT) Meeting of Monday, February 13,
2006
1. Management items
- Updated MCWF Fabrication
Plan (Hutch)
- EIO will deliver
remaining MCWFs at rate of one every 4 weeks, the last on 4/17/07. All MCWFs
needed for first field period are delivered by the 11th delivery, second
field period by the 13th delivery.
- Payment of additional
consideration is tied to on-schedule delivery of winding forms, and
especially completion of field period sets.
- Amount of additional
consideration is under negotiation.
- Revised project schedule to
accommodate MCWF deliveries (Wayne, Ron)
- Field period assembly
operations have been compressed by completing #1 and #2 in parallel, #3 on
two shifts. Costs (other than additional MCWF consideration) are a
wash.
- Upcoming DOE
interactions
- Feb. 15. Briefing
for OFES. (Update on MCWF and Project schedule re-planning). Need
slides on 1) How far off the ECP-039 plan are we? 2) When do the
new and old plans come back together? And 3) How are we making up for
the delay, in detail. Action: Ron by Tuesday 2/14.
- Feb. 17. SC Watch
List briefing. (Pitonak & Makiel presenting to Decker and Davies)
Message: the project can be completed within the approved performance
baseline.
- Feb. 22.
FY-06 1Q Quarterly. Outlook for the next 3-months, i.e.,
where we expect to be at the time of the May 9-10 Lehman
Review.
- Reverification of PPPL
Integrated Safety Management System, Mar. 6-10. (Wayne)
- Team from CH will visit
PPPL and will focus on NCSX.
- Interactions will include
presentations by NCSX, interviews with project staff, examination of project
documents.
- Dry runs will be week of
Feb. 27
- Wayne will issue
guidance and dry run plan.
2.
Risks
- Modular Coil design and
drawings (Brad)
-
Type A cladding
and chill plate drawings have slipped. They are expected to be done this
week.
- Type lead blocks will be
done this week.
- Diversion of effort to
address MCWF vendor issues has contributed to delays in other MC design
activities. This may result in a significant schedule variance in January.
- First Type A MCWF is
expected May 16. There is a risk that delivery of small parts will
hold-up Type A coil winding as a result of drawing delays. It may be
necessary to expedite parts orders. Larry.
- Type C assembly drawings
are nearly finished. It should be possible to expedite the Type B & C
assembly drawings by adding staff.
MC
fabrication cost control
- A detailed report of
actuals vs. estimates will be needed for the Lehman review. Will we
need to request additional contingency?
- For the quarterly, we can
report cost and schedule for C1 and part of C2. We need to reduce the
number of unaccounted for hours. Action: Larry develop 1-2 slides for
the Feb. 22 quarterly, explaining actuals vs. estimates, with <10% of the
charged hours unaccounted for.
