Subject: Summary of NCSX SIT Meeting of
1/30/06
Summary of NCSX
System Integration Team (SIT) Meeting of Monday, January 30,
2006
1. Risks
- MCWF delivery schedule.
(Phil)
-
Review of
supplier’s plan to complete the MCWF deliveries will be held on Jan. 31. A
report of the conclusions will be written after the meeting. Follow up
discussions to reach agreement on a plan going forward will be held in the
next few days thereafter.
- Briefings for OFES are
planned for Feb. 3 ant Feb. 15. The next Watch List briefing for the Office
of Science is Feb. 17.
Vacuum
vessel design issues (Brad)
- Brad presented first
results of thermal tests of flexible cable and its attachment to the vacuum
vessel. Using forced air as the coolant, performance was almost as good hard
tubing. Flow rate was limited by instrumentation issues, which will soon be
resolved, whereupon the tests will be extended to higher flow rates.
Ron asked whether performance would be reduced if the pourable
insulation got into the gaps between the tubing and vacuum vessel. This was
not tested yet but will be investigated. Brad’s
assessment:
- The flexible tubing
with saddle attachments will work and we should go ahead and buy them.
- It may require closer
attachment spacing than currently planned to achieve required performance.
A compromise may be needed.
- The drawings needed to
buy the tubing exist but it was not clear if they are released for
fabrication. Action: Brad follow up with Wayne to complete the
necessary review and approval process.
- The sample heater tape
for permeability evaluation has not arrived yet but was shipped last
Thursday. Action: Larry follow up.
- January cost performance
report.
- We are running a CV of
~$800k. Major contributors are Modular Coil Fabrication (Supplies, winding,
and re-work, $332k), TF coils ($85k), MC design ($57), Project Mgt. ($58k),
Engineering Mgt./SE ($73k), Diagnostics ($62k), and power systems ($65k)
- We are running a SV of
~$1.5M. Major contributors are VVSA fabrication ($693k), MC design
($197k), VV design ($73k), MC Fab ($139k)
- Responsible managers need
to follow up on these issues and take appropriate action to improve our cost
and schedule performance.
2. Project
Control (Ron)
- Next job status meeting
is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 7 in the afternoon. Ron will issue the
agenda.
3. Next SIT Meeting:
