Weekly Update of 06/14/06
1. Modular Coil fabrication
(PPPL)
MC Fabrication summary status:
4 in
production
2 completed through VPI
1 fully
completed.
C-1 Coil
- Coil has been instrumented
and cooled down. Power testing is scheduled to begin June 15.
- Cold testing
program is behind schedule due to the extra time required to analyze the
insulation fault and re-plan with appropriate reviews and protective measures.
C-2 Coil
- Removed from
autoclave. Post-VPI activities in progress.
C-3 Coil
- Potting mold is being
installed. Modifications have been made in the lead area, guided by C1
diagnostic test results, to reduce the risk of insulation fault recurrence.
- Forecast completion of VPI
prep is June 19; milestone was June 9. Saturday work is planned to recover
schedule.
C-4 Coil
- Both sides have been wound.
Winding pack metrology is in progress.
- VPI prep completion
milestone is July 20. On schedule.
C-5 Coil
- Stud installation and MCWF
metrology has been completed. Will move to winding station following
C-3.
- VPI prep completion
milestone is August 16. Currently 13 days behind
schedule.
A-1 Coil
- Preliminary processing
completed. Ready to move to manufacturing facility next week.
- VPI prep completion
milestone is October 2. Currently 11 days behind
schedule.
2. MCWF procurement (Energy Industries of
Ohio)
MCWF summary status:
All 18 castings
have been poured
2 in foundry operations
10 in machining operations
6
delivered.
Machining operations (Major Tool and
Machine):
A-2
- Completed 3-axis operations
on the Mitsu-40. Moved to U5 and began 5-axis operations last week.
- The project’s delivery
milestone is July 13, but MTM is projecting shipment around the end of
June.
A-3 and A-4
- The A-3 is in 3-axis
operations in tandem on the Mitsu-40.
- The A-4 is in 3-axis
operations in tandem on the Mitsu-30.
- The project’s delivery
milestones are August 16 and October 24.
B-1 and
B-2
- The B-1 and B-2 are
alternating in roughing operations on the Lucas 40T.
- The project’s delivery
milestones are September 20 and November 29.
A-5, A-6, B3, B4, and
C-6
- The A-5, A-6, B-3, B-4, and
C-6 are in the queue for roughing operations on the Lucas
40T.
Foundry operations (MetalTek International):
B-5
- The B-5 is completed weld
upgrades and was shipped to MQS for final
X-ray.
B-6
- The B-6 is undergoing weld
upgrades.
3. VVSA procurement (Major Tool and
Machine)
- VVSA #2 is having its ports
aligned and prepped.
- VVSA #3: Ports and end
flanges are being installed.
4. TF Assemblies procurement (Everson Tesla,
Incorporated)
- Mike Kalish
and other PPPL staff have made weekly visits to ETI. Recent topics have been
tooling details, QA kick-off.
- Tesla
personnel are meeting with stainless steel suppliers for the wedge
pieces.
- Fermi Lab is
preparing to ship the induction braze unit to
ETI.
