NCSX Weekly Update of 03/08/06
1. Modular Coil fabrication
(PPPL)
C-1 Coil
- The C1 coil has been moved
into the autoclave and is scheduled to be VPI’d this weekend.
- Current forecast is to
complete the C1 coil by 3/18/06, or 11 days ahead of schedule for the Level II
milestone scheduled for March.
C-2 Coil
- Winding of the
second side has been completed. The dimensional measuring of the bundle
location has begun.
- We expect to complete the
C2 coil by 4/18/06, versus our Level III schedule target of 4/17 in the
performance-measurement baseline. The C2 coil is well off the critical
path.
C-3 Coil
- The C3 has
been delivered to the winding facility and mounted in the casting prep
station. Installation of the clamp studs is one-third
complete.
2. MCWF procurement (Energy Industries of
Ohio)
MCWF summary status:
14 poured to
date
4 in foundry operations
7 in machining operations
3
delivered.
Machining operations (Major Tool and
Machine):
C-4
- The C-4 is in 5-axis
operations on the U-5. A tool gouge occurred in the base of the tee. It will
require weld repair after it comes off the machine. We expect they will meet
the project’s scheduled delivery date of March
31.
C-5
- The C-5 is progressing well
through 3-axis operations on the Mitsu-40. The project’s scheduled
delivery date is May 4.
A-1 and A-2
- The A-1 and A-2 are being
rough machined concurrently on the Lucas.
B-1
- Machining programs are
being developed.
A-3 and C-6
- A-3 and C-6 are at MTM,
awaiting machining.
Foundry operations (MetalTek International):
A-4
- The A-4 was shipped
to MQS for final X-ray instead of performing it in-house as previously
planned.
A-5
- The A-5 finished welding
and initial LP inspection. It was scheduled to go to MQS for RT this
week.
A-6
- The A-6 is at MQS
undergoing RT.
B-2
- The B2 is going through
initial heat treat and grinding.
3. VVSA procurement (Major
Tool and Machine)
- VVSA #1: Final machining,
dimensional checks, and port alignment checks are in process.
- VVSA #2, all the ports are
installed and the support bosses are currently being welded
on.
- VVSA #3, the sector
is in the queue for the DSI machine where the port holes will be
bored.
- We are expecting to receive
an updated VVSA delivery schedule from Major
Tool.
