NCSX Weekly Update of 05/11/06
1. Modular Coil fabrication
(PPPL)
MC Fabrication summary status:
4 in
production
2 completed through VPI prep
1 fully
completed.
C-2 Coil
- The epoxy
feed sprues and potting mold support shell have been installed, completing VPI
prep activities.. Scheduled to move to the VPI station by the end of the
week.
C-3 Coil
- Metrology and current
center repositioning have been completed. Securing of the winding pack with
fabric strips is in progress.
- We forecast completing VPI
prep activities and moving to the VPI station by June
6.
C-4 Coil
- Cladding and winding clamps
are being installed. Scheduled to move to the winding station by the end of
the week.
- We forecast completing VPI
prep activities and moving to the VPI station by July
20
C-5 Coil
- Scheduled to move to the
casting prep station by the end of the week.
- We forecast completing VPI
prep activities and moving to the VPI station by August
18.
2. MCWF procurement (Energy Industries of
Ohio)
MCWF summary status:
All 18 castings
have been poured
4 in foundry operations
9 in machining operations
5
delivered.
Machining operations (Major Tool and
Machine):
A-1
- The A-1 is progressing well
through 5-axis operations on the U5.
- The project’s scheduled
delivery date is June 8.
A-2
- The A-2 is progressing well
through 3-axis operations on the Mitsu-40.
- The project’s scheduled
delivery date is July 13.
A-3 and A-4
- The A-2 and A-3 have
completed roughing operations and are in the Mitsu-40 queue.
- The project’s scheduled
delivery dates for A-3 and A-4 are August 16 and October 24, respectively
B-1 and B-2
- The B-1 and B-2 are staged
to beginning roughing operations on the Lucas 40T. Machining of B-1 has
started.
- The project’s scheduled
delivery date for B-1 is September 20.
- The project’s scheduled
delivery date for B-1 is November 29.
A-5, A-6, and
C-6
- The A-5, A-6, and C-6 are
in the queue for roughing operations on the Lucas
40T.
Foundry operations (MetalTek International):
B-3
- The B-3 completed final
X-ray and is scheduled for heat treat this week. Should ship by week’s
end.
B-4
- The B-4 is undergoing weld
upgrades and is scheduled to be sent to MQS for final X-ray later this
week.
B-5
- Initial heat treat was
completed and the part was sent to MQS for
X-ray.
B-6
- The B-6 is in initial
processing.
3. VVSA procurement (Major Tool and
Machine)
- VVSA #1: Shipped May 8.
Arrived at PPPL May 9, in time for inspection by the Lehman review
team.
- VVSA #2: In vacuum
testing.
- VVSA #3: Ports are being
installed.
4. TF Assemblies procurement (Everson Tesla,
Incorporated)
- PPPL Technical
Representative Mike Kalish visited ETI for detailed discussions of
requirements and manufacturing plans with ETI project management
staff.
