05/17/06
1. Modular Coil fabrication
(PPPL)
MC Fabrication summary status:
4 in
production
2 completed through VPI prep
1 fully
completed.
C-2 Coil
- Completed VPI
Prep and moved to VPI station.
- Epoxy feed
and vacuum connections are in progress.
- VPI scheduled
for week of May 22
C-3 Coil
- Securing of the winding
pack with fabric strips and closure of the ground wrap were completed.
- Outer chill plate
installation has begun.
- We forecast completing VPI
prep activities and moving to the VPI station by June
6.
C-4 Coil
- Moved to the winding
station. Clamp sidebar positions set. Ground wrap installation in progress.
- We forecast completing VPI
prep activities and moving to the VPI station by July
20
C-5 Coil
- Moved to the casting
prep station.
2. MCWF procurement (Energy Industries of
Ohio)
MCWF summary status:
All 18 castings
have been poured
4 in foundry operations
9 in machining operations
5
delivered.
A machine breakdown occurred on the Mitsu-40 while
working on the A-2. The Mitsu-30, previously identified as the backup for the
Mitsu-40, was immediately brought into service, with the A-3 the first to start
processing. See discussion below.
Major Tool representatives will visit PPPL
on Thursday, May 18, and are expected to provide more information.
Machining operations (Major Tool and
Machine):
A-1
- The A-1 completed 5-axis
operations on the U5 and is in hand work and inspection. Expected to ship the
week of May 22.
- The project’s scheduled
delivery date is June 8.
A-2
- The A-2 has progressed
about half-way through 3-axis operations on the Mitsu-40.
- Progress was interrupted by
a machine breakdown on the Mitsu-40. Repair plans and schedule updates are
being developed by Major Tool. At this time, processing of the A-2 has
been suspended and the part has been left in place on the
A-2.
A-3
- The A-3 is beginning 3-axis
operations on the Mitsu-30, due to the breakdown of the Mitsu-40.
- The next Type A deliveries
after the A-1 are scheduled for July 13 and August
16.
A-4
- The A-4 have completed
roughing operations and are in the Mitsu-40 queue.
- The project’s scheduled
delivery date for A-4 is October 24.
B-1 and
B-2
- The B-1 and B-2 are
alternating in roughing operations on the Lucas 40T.
- The project’s scheduled
delivery date for B-1 is September 20.
- The project’s scheduled
delivery date for B-1 is November 29.
A-5, A-6, and
C-6
- The A-5, A-6, and C-6 are
in the queue for roughing operations on the Lucas
40T.
Foundry operations (MetalTek International):
B-3
- The B-3 completed final
stress relief and was scheduled for final inspection and shipment earlier this
week.
B-4
- The B-4 completed weld
upgrades and was sent to MQS for final X-ray. Expected to ship by the end of
May.
B-5
- The B-5 completed initial
X-ray at MQS and returned to the foundry where it is in excavation and
mapping.
B-6
- The B-6 completed initial
processing and was shipped to MQS for initial X-ray.
3. VVSA procurement (Major Tool and
Machine)
- VVSA #2: passed vacuum
testing. Currently being inspected.
- VVSA #3: Ports are being
installed.
4. TF Assemblies procurement (Everson Tesla,
Incorporated)
- Kickoff
meeting held with Everson-Tesla Representatives (5/16/06).
Technical, schedule, and contractual issues were
reviewed.
- The first
shipment of conductor (two crates = 10 spools) was made to Everson. This
constitutes enough copper for development work and the first two
coils.
- Pro
Engineering files were provided to ETI for all of the coil
drawings.
