Summary of NCSX
On-Site Fabrication Meeting of Tuesday, November 22, 2006
1.
Cost and Schedule Trends and Issues (11/21/06
data)
- Cost trends through VPI of
A1 appear to have leveled off above estimated values.
- The cost growth is
concentrated in the tasks from bag mold and sprue installation, through VPI
and turnaround. Are improvements possible by targeting these tasks?
- A2 schedule has suffered
due to a string of recent minor changes: bag mold, crew re-organization, State
of the Lab attendance, Secretary of Energy visit, miscellaneous. Some impact
on A3 as well.
- A2 will go into autoclave
next week (~Nov. 29). Goal is to have A3 in the autoclave before the Christmas
holiday, potted if possible.
2. Status of measures to improve
performance
- Saturday second shift and
extended weekday shifts have been suspended. No work over Thanksgiving
weekend.
- Rose is getting quotes for
Tee shirts for the winding crew. Hutch agreed to pay for them out of
non-contract budget.
- A new technician has been
hired and joined the crew. Some crew re-organization was done. May result in a
short-term dip in productivity.
- The new winding fixture
will come over next week and be installed in Station 3. B2 will be mounted in
Station 3 when it’s ready.
3 Issues and follow-up
actions.
- We are basically in good
shape for parts. New clamp parts will start arriving next week.
- Meggar unit borrowed from
AC power is giving lower readings than ours, but still well above spec.
Ours is suspect, and is out for calibration / repair.
- VV heating/cooling mounting
saddles mismatch vessel geometry at 20-30% of the locations. The grade
of grafoil used is an issue. Goranson is following
up.
