09/13/06
1. Modular Coil fabrication
(PPPL)
MC Fabrication summary status:
4 coils through
winding operations and VPI
C-2 Coil
- Completed post-VPI cleanup.
C-4 Coil
- Transferred out of
autoclave, in the queue for post-VPI cleanup
C-5 Coil
- Completed chill plates,
tubing, leads, etc. Currently installing the filler material and sprues
for the VPI mold.
- VPI prep completion
milestone is August 16. Current forecast is Sept. 21, 25 working days behind
schedule.
A-1 Coil
- Winding complete. Winding
pack measurements in progress
- VPI prep completion
milestone is October 2. Current forecast is Oct. 12, 10 working days behind
schedule.
A-2 Coil
- In casting prep operations.
Studs have been installed. Metrology monuments are being installed.
- VPI prep completion
milestone is November 10. Currentl forecast is Nov. 29, 11 working days behind
schedule.
A-3 Coil
- In the queue for winding
operations.
Note: metrology equipment problems experienced
earlier in the week have been resolved.
2. MCWF procurement
(Energy Industries of Ohio)
MCWF summary status:
All 18 castings
have completed foundry operations
5 in active machining operations
5 in
the machining queue
8 shipped to PPPL
Machining operations (Major Tool
and Machine):
B-1
- The B-1 was expected to
finish 5-axis operations on the U5 earlier this week. Some cleanup operations
on other machines remain.
- PPPL personnel are making
plans to visit Major Tool Sept. 26 to review final inspection data. It is
expected to ship by the end of September.
- The project’s delivery
milestone is September 20.
B-2
- The B-2 is progressing well
in 3-axis machining operations on the Mitsu-40, but at a slower pace than
previously forecast.
- A machine breakdown on the
Mitsu-40 earlier this week interrupted progress on the B-2. A temporary repair
is planned in order to resume operations and finish up the remaining work on
B-2, before the machine is taken off line for a week of maintenance.
- The project’s delivery
milestone is November 29 for B2. It is expected to ship in mid-to-late
October.
A-4
- The A-4 is in the queue for
the Mitsu-40.
- The project’s delivery
milestone is October 24 for A-4.
B-3, B-4, and
B-5
- The B-3, B-4, are rotating
through rough machining operations on the Lucas 40T.
- The project’s delivery
milestone is January 11 for B-3.
- The project’s delivery
milestone is February 14 for B-4.
- The project’s delivery
milestone is March 20 for B-5.
The expected delivery sequence for the next few
coils is B-1, B-2, A-4, B-3, B-4.
A-5, A-6, B-6, and
C-6
- The A-5, A-6, B-5, B-6, and
C-6 are in the queue for machining.
3. VVSA procurement (Major Tool
and Machine)
- VVSA #3: Fabrication is
complete. Disposition of NCRs and review of inspection data are in progress
but have taken longer than expected. Expected to ship next
week.
4. TF Assemblies procurement (Everson Tesla,
Incorporated)
Activities at ETI are currently focused on setting up
the winding line:
- Cleanroom construction is
nearly complete.
- Winding fixture is on
schedule for 9/15 completion.
- Braze coil for Robitron
received. Materials ordered for brazing
fixture.
- Met with Baldor rep. to
review PPPL taping machine mods and tie-in to ETI winding machine.
Modification of PPPL taping machine started.
