I have added your comments to the quality inspection plan. There are still some questions left.

 

• The dimension control. Österby would like to see the laser scanning as a part of the dimension protocol. The clamps are rough machined and the laser scanner will give a very good view of the finiched machined clamps will fit into the rough machined clamps.
• A witness point from Tesla could be during PT and Laser scanning.

Thanks for the draft QIPP. I have the following comments :-

 

• Please include our order number, # 79865, drawing number (I also assume you will produce a drawing of the cast & proof machined component ?), and PPPL specification number.

 

• Geometry inspection protocol must be specified. What & how to measure.

 

• Permeability test is missing. This should be before & after machining.

 

• For each inspection step, you should reference a standard or document number, which gives the details of how the test will be done, what the acceptance criteria are.

 

• We need to agree some hold & witness points for key tests, particularly on the first batch.

 

• Test data document package needs to be agreed in advance.

The radiography people (Force Technology) who will carry out the tests are looking at the ASTM standards and comparing them to their Swedish/European standards right know

Gentlemen,

 

We had a telecon with PPPL yesterday, and in principle they agree for Tesla to order the castings from Osterby.

 

Regarding the 77 K Charpy test, this can be done by immersing the test pieces in liquid nitrogen, then testing them within 5 seconds of removing from the bath. It is accepted there is a little temperature rise.

 

Please send a final version of the quotation today, so we can place the order.

 

I propose to split the order value into a line item of 30% of total, the advanced payment payable in October, and line items equal to 70% for patterns, and 70% of casting unit price. I will show 6 batches of 6 = 36 pieces. The 70% values would be invoiced at point of dispatch for the castings, and 70% of the pattern price with the first shipment.

 

Please confirm the proposal for radiography complies with the MSS SP54 standard, emailed yesterday.

 

I would like to place the order today, as I am out of the office tomorrow, and Friday is too close to the holiday, in case there are any final issues to resolve. I can be contacted during the holiday by email or cell phone, but I would prefer a holiday.
