Subject: Coil Winding
Activities Update
Folks,
Here's a status on where we
are.
TRC:
- The coil is being prepared for the final clamps. The G11 pads are
all cleaned up and we are in the process of digging out the RTV from the bolt
holes
- The coils clamps are due to ship today, while the silver plated screws
should have shipped already.
- Successful hydrostatic test of the cooling tube was performed this
morning. We will perform a flow test after lunch.
- We detected a short between the cooling line(s) and the casting. The
shorts are occurring in the upper chill plate which is staked to the vertical
cladding. We suspect that the staking process damages the insulation
(Kapton sheet on the back of the cladding) and some part of the VPI (or
post VPI) process compromised it the rest of the way. The resistance is ~0.5
ohms. This short wasn't there before VPI.
Facility
Prep:
- Work continues on stations 1Aand 4. We are in the process of
anchoring down the Mod Coil-to-Ring assembly fixture
- We "found" a good sized gantry/A-frame hoist which we hope to use on
station 1A. We will try it out this afternoon.
Winding
Pack stabilization trials:
- The Straight tee is stripped.
- We have machined conical seats into the end caps for Romer alignment(s).
- We are stud-welding treaded rod onto the tee for the lower leg of the side
clamp.
- B. Stratton, Mike Z. and I met yesterday and agreed upon a set binding
configurations that we will try.
