Brad,
Here are a few pics of the VV Weld Joint welded together using the 1/8" 
root gap with the original "J" groove profile.  The welder indicated it 
went together easily. He was able to fuse through to the backside. Pics 
P1194397 & 98 represent the "inside" of the weld.



I also discussed the idea of eliminating the weld flanges and welding 
the spool pieces directly.  The welders thought that would work fine.
