Bob,
Mike Cole forwarded
your email to me regarding the posting of ECP-014. One area in the cost reduction resulted
in the elimination of the NBI port extension. I’m not sure if Bill Blanchard has
commented on this proposal or not (he’s on vacation until September
13th). Last year he
looked at the vertical ports and the large horizontal diagnostic port to meet
his pumping requirements but found them to be conductance limited. We developed a simplified NBI port
pumping duct arrangement that could be fabricated at a lower cost than estimated
for the NBI port extension. The
comparison of the duct arrangement can be seen in the attachment. Mike and I have a concern that although
the elimination of the NBI port is a cost savings, the addition of a pumping
port is not a “0” cost item. The
pumps must be located in a low field area which adds distance between the VV
opening and the location of the pumps.
Diagnostic openings also will be desired (as shown in the ppt file). Has the cost of the pump ducts been accounted
for?
-Tom

Rebaselining
Folks,
I have posted a partial ECP-014
(CD-3 Rebaselining) on the NCSX Engineering Web at: < http://ncsx.pppl.gov/SystemsEngineering/Config_Mgmt/FY2004_ECPs/FY2004_ECPs_index.htm>
for your review and comment. The missing attachments (primarily items that
involve Ron and I) will be posted later this week.
Please provide your comments back to
me by the end of this week (Friday, September 10th). I would
like to hold a CCB early next week if at all possible. Due to my TOFE
travel, I would propose a CCB at 11:00 am on Monday, September
13th. We will hold the CCB in the NCSX Engineering Conference
Room and will connect with ORNL using Net Meeting.
Marianne – please schedule the
conference room for next Monday.
Finally, please note that we have
dropped the FY designation from the ECP numbering scheme – this and future ECPs
will be sequential in number.
Thanks,
Bob S.
