Strykowsky Subject: RE: ECP-034 - Trinos Flanges and Heat Treating Each WCWF Casting Bob, Stress relieving all of the castings will mitigate risks of distortion due to weld "upgrading" which may otherwise occur during machining or possibly in operation. MTK stress relieved the C1 and C2 castings; we believe it's prudent to stress relieve all of them to assure uniformity of casting structural and machining propertires. . We discussed this with EIO today, and they are in agreement with doing the stress relieving just prior to shipment to Major Tool for machining. I'd like to get this revision in with R8 of the spec this week - they are going to give Larry a formal cost proposal, but it's going to be in the range of $1800/casting x 16 remaining castings (MTK's cost). Will you prepare the ECP this way? I'll work with you on the spec update for this Wednesday. Thanks. Wayne –can you please fill in the rationale for the heat treating of each MCWF casting (stress relief?)? Since I was out a large part of last week, I am not current on this. Trinos Flange is pretty well documented. Ron – any other cats and dogs we want to roll up here? I would like to tentatively schedule at CCB for this on Thursday afternoon. Say 2:00 pm? Please return comments to me. Thanks, Bob S. Bob Simmons NCSX Systems Engineering Support Manager Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) Tel #: (609) 243-2766 Fax #: (609) 243-3030
