Brown Subject: RE: Detail questions Phil,Tom, I talked to Kevin by phone to get some clarification regarding question #3: The question refers to breakouts where a back spotface for the flange thru hole is very close to a penetration in the shell. This occurs in 3-4 places over the three winding forms. Though the drawing calls out a minimum spotface to clean up, the model has a fixed depth of cut, which is how the machining will likely be done. The options are to treat these holes differently, eg create a true min spotface, or else de-burr as required. They would prefer the latter. It probably will look better on the part because they will establish the depth of cut after measuring the stocked flange surface for all of the holes. On question #2, the cad model is correct and the drawing notes, indicating the number of 3/8-16UNC holes, should be revised. Question #1, the NBI opening mismatch is due to the assembly clearance required at one end of the cutout. Mirror symmetry is not possible because of the support boss at the other end, though stellerator symmetry is preserved. Kevin did not have a problem with the geometry but was curious about it. Let me know if further reponse documentation is required. As we plow through the details we will periodically find small things like the attached graphic. I will generally let a few of these accumulate until I pose the questions unless they are work flow bottlenecks. Best Regards, Kevin Bowling Program Manager Major Tool & Machine, Inc.
