General requirements for types, forms and language
style for the specifications and associated documentation shall
be in accordance with or compatible with MIL-STD-490A, MIL-STD-970,
MIL-STD-961D, MIL-STD-962 DEF STAN 05-28/1, JSP 188, etc., shall
be incorporated.
Where no specific layout and format has been defined the general
format and structure specified by the data item descriptors shall
be adopted.
The concept of minimum documentation shall be evident. All stipulated plans, reports, and other data items shall be used to record the engineering outputs.
Details the requirements for documentation style, format and general instructions for preparing and evaluating documentation. This includes material arrangement, titling, paragraphing, marking, heading, security, binding, authorization, checks and concluding material.
For a model text for paragraph 3.1
This paragraph is applicable to the specifications and documents being developed which will become a part of a specification, e.g., design documentation for software.

This paragraph is only applicable to the documentation which is produced in support of the baseline documents, e.g., Test documents, management documents, etc.
